Art Car Boot Sale 2019 Guide
Here's everything you need to know about Scotland's biggest contemporary art market...
The annual Art Car Boot Sale will take place at SWG3 this weekend in Glasgow and is set to be an exciting showcase of the best contemporary artwork from across Scotland. So, if you are looking for something a bit different, this is one not to be missed.
Where is the event?
Art Car Boot Sale will take place at SWG3, Glasgow's leading multi-discipline arts venue located in Glasgow's Yorkhill area, just a ten minute walk from Finnieston strip. Over the course of the event, more than 100 contemporary artists will pull up at SWG3 to sell their latest work from the boot of cars, vans, and from market stalls. All of the participating artists will be on hand and selling their work directly to buyers.
How much is a ticket?
An adult ticket is £3.00 and is available on the door. The good news is that Under 16's go free and the event is dog friendly. Inside, there will be great discounts on unique works and limited editions; preparatory sketches for exhibitions, maquettes, photography and much more.
What kind of art will be on offer?
From limited edition prints to hand-made ceramics, a broad range of works will be on offer - ranging in price from £5 to £5000. Participating artists range from Turner Prize nominees, artists with work in major collections around the world and emerging stars of the future. Newly launched online art retailer FromtheStudio will also be selling a selection of their handpicked works, from artists including Henry Coombes and Michael Fullerton.
Additional artists include: Christine Borland, Jacqueline Donachie, France-Lise McGurn, Laura Aldridge, Beagles and Ramsey, Claire Barclay, Christine Borland, Roderick Buchanan, Erica Eyres, Mads Holm, Tessa Lynch, Toby Paterson, Kate V Robertson, Ross Sinclair, Gregor Wright, and Rachel Duckhouse.
What's new this year?
This year, organisers have added a raffle and the chance to win an original painting by France-Lise McGurn - currently showing at the Tate Britain, framed and ready to go. Raffle tickets can be purchased on the door at entry.
Is it kid friendly?
Yes! Not only do Under 16's go free, but there will also be a dedicated kids "creation station" zone all weekend where babies, toddlers and teens can engage and develop their artistic skills. High chairs and baby changing is also available throughout the venue.
What else is on offer? Running alongside the market place, there will be plenty of food and drink on offer throughout the sweeping venue, with a number of Glasgow's leading street food superstars being on site to serve up their scran: MAD LAB, Nomad Wood Fired Pizza, Tantrum Doughnuts and Julie's Kopitiam. SWG3's brand new outdoor deck and terrace will also be open, where customers can enjoy views of the graffiti yard.
- Art Car Boot Sale takes place this Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June. Tickets are available on the door at SWG3 priced at £3. For further information please visit: www.swg3.tv
